The relatively low cost of the insurance premium can save you a lot of losses and troubles - from partial damage to total loss and theft of the cargo, as well as potential costs related to recovering of the goods after General Average.

It is important to be considered that except in cases of losses, the cargo insurance is necessary also when a GENERAL AVARAGE has been declared and costs for vessel rescue have been made. In such cases the goods owner owes solidary, proportional compensation on base invoice value of the vessel owner, which is covered by the insurance. If there is no insurance, then the goods owner must effectively pay in the amount covering his joint liability in order to receive his goods.
